Overview
Curatorial Note
A photographic and documentary portrait of Roma communities in Romania at the end of the twentieth century, combining Bernard Houliat’s text with photographs by Antoine Schneck. Developed through extended engagement with Roma individuals and families, the volume documents a wide range of social environments and lived experiences, juxtaposing everyday life, family structures, material conditions, and individual portraits. Published in 1999, it constitutes a significant visual record of Roma life in post-socialist Romania while also reflecting the practices and perspectives of Western European documentary photography of the period.
