Conference Proceedings - The Roma Community and Multi-Ethnicity in the Countries of Central Europe – A European Problem?
Curatorial Note
The Roma and Europe / Romové a Evropa brings together papers from the international conference held at Štiřín Castle in December 1998 on the position of Roma communities within the changing political and social landscape of Central Europe. Framed around the question of Roma ethnicity, multi-ethnicity, minority rights, and European integration, the volume reflects a period in which Roma issues were becoming increasingly central to debates on democracy, citizenship, migration, discrimination, and the responsibilities of European institutions and national governments. Published by the Institute of International Relations in Prague, the proceedings provide a valuable record of late-1990s policy discourse concerning Roma in post-socialist Central Europe and the emerging European framework for minority protection.
