Lieder und Tänze der Roma in Österreich
Curatorial Note
Romane Gila: Lieder und Tänze der Roma in Österreich documents the musical traditions of Roma communities in Austria through ethnomusicological research conducted in collaboration with Roma performers. Combining contextual documentation, song texts, musical transcriptions, and recorded performances, the publication approaches music as a form of cultural expression and transmission rather than as an isolated repertory. Issued in Vienna in 1992 by the Österreichische Dialektautoren and the Institut für Volksmusikforschung, the original publication was accompanied by an audio cassette containing examples of the documented repertoire. The volume is an important source for the study of Romani musical culture in late twentieth-century Austria and reflects an emerging research approach centered on collaboration with Roma musicians and communities.
