Overview
Curatorial Note
A documentary collection of eighteenth-century Spanish sources concerning the legal and social position of Gitano communities, providing important primary-source material for the study of state regulation, persecution, and Roma history in Spain. This copy has an unusually well-documented transatlantic provenance. It was inscribed and presented by María Helena Sánchez Ortega to the Spanish historian Salvador de Moxó, whom she describes as her teacher (“una discípula”). A second inscription records its purchase at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil, during the 9th Congresso de Leitura do Brasil in July 1993. The volume was subsequently acquired online by its present owner and received in Porto Alegre in August 2008.
